School History

In order to forge our own identity we had to find a way to communicate our ideas to the community. People from the community were able to give their input to help us establish ourselves as a new school.. These are the events that took place in order to select our school name, school colors, and mascot.

Friday, March 2nd: Suggestion form created and sent to neighboring schools, Shingle Creek and Sadler Elementary, to solicit ideas from the community.

Monday, March 19th: Suggestion forms were retrieved from the school locations and a list was compiled of the suggestions for School Name, Mascot and Colors.

Tuesday, March 20th: The Naming Committee held a meeting at 5pm at Sadler Elementary School. There were 6 members in total and the suggestions were narrowed down to 6 choices.

Thursday, March 22nd: A voting ballot for students, staff and community members was created.

Wednesday, March 28th: Voting was held at Shingle Creek Elementary School during lunch. Students who are zoned to attend the school were brought to the stage once they had finished their meal and given the ballot to select from the six choices for name.

Friday, March 30th: Voting was held at Sadler Elementary from 10am-11:30am. Volunteers presented ballots in the classrooms and the students voted on one of the six choices. Also on this date, some of the Partners In Education submitted their votes. These included Chik-Fil-A (Kirkman Road location,) Crowne Plaza Hotel, Publix (John Young Pkwy. Location) and Mimi’s Café.

Friday, March 30th: At 12:30pm, the total votes were tallied and the top three choices were submitted to the School Board to appear on the April 10, 2007 meeting agenda.
